Republican incumbent Rep. Dave Griffith won re-election to the Missouri House of Representatives District 60 seat Tuesday and will hold the office for the next two years, according to unofficial results from the Cole County Clerk's Office.

He was opposed by Democrat Joshua Dunne.

Griffith, who is finishing his first term, received 11,398 votes (63.66 percent), while Dunne received 6,479 votes (36.19 percent).

"I'm just really happy with all the hard work that a lot of my friends and family did for me, especially my wife, Leigh," Griffith said Tuesday night.

While Griffith worked on business for the state, Leigh campaigned for him, he said.

"Because of COVID-19, we weren't able to knock on as many doors as we did two years ago," Griffith said. "I think that my name recognition, and I hope that the work I've done in the House for the last three years - and being able to talk with my constituents with my open-door policy - made a difference."

Despite disappointing results, Dunne said he was happy with the campaign he ran.

"It was a different year (with the pandemic). And, being a first-time candidate, the odds were against me," Dunne said.

Dunne said he would continue to fight for issues important to Missourians and that folks in the Capitol should get used to seeing his face there.

District 60 includes most of Jefferson City, with the exception of the southeastern-most part of the city.

Rep. Rudy Veit, R-Wardsville, did not have a challenger for his House District 59 seat, which includes the southeastern-most part of Jefferson City, most of Cole County and a portion of northern Miller County. He received 16,635 votes Tuesday.
