JC Parks reopen city's playgrounds

After being closed for two months, Jefferson City's playgrounds reopened for public use Friday.

The Jefferson City Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department closed the playgrounds in mid-March amid concerns surrounding the coronavirus.

The Centers for Disease Control recommended parks remain open but that shared equipment not be used, including playgrounds and drinking fountains, to minimize possibility of virus spread.

Playgrounds at 10 city and neighborhood parks are now open.

The playground at McClung Park is closed due to construction.

Water fountains will be operational the first week of June.

JC Parks has slowly been reopening facilities and providing access to programs. The Linc wellness center is in its first stage of reopening, and the city pools will reopen June 5.

Youth and adult sports leagues have begun practice and will start games next week.

All programs and facilities are being operated with adjusted policies including social distancing and increased cleaning.
