A Jefferson City man has been charged with stealing thousands of dollars from a local business.
Jesse Katona, 23, is charged with felony stealing.
A witness at Family Dollar on Madison Street stated that between March 1 and May 1, Katona had been seen on store video stealing funds from the store by cancelling customers' transactions and placing their cash in his pockets, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.
The witness also told authorities Katona had written a statement to Family Dollar admitting to stealing more than $9,000 since he was promoted to assistant manager.
When questioned by authorities, Katona reportedly admitted to the theft. He claimed to have used the money to pay his bills.
