To celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week during a time when travel and tourism aren't necessarily encouraged, the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau has created a way to rediscover Jefferson City.

Through two scavenger hunts, the CVB hopes to encourage residents to learn about the city and its history, either by exploring downtown Jefferson City or doing some internet searches.

"This year, when people can't travel outside of their communities, we just felt it was a good way to promote adventuring in your own backyard and making memories with your family," said Brittney Mormann, communications manager for the CVB.

Each scavenger hunt is made up of 10 questions participants need to answer.

The Downtown Jefferson City scavenger hunt includes questions that can be answered by exploring the area, such as "How many benches are located in the Carnahan Memorial Garden?"

A few questions have the seekers take photos in different locations, like in front of the Capitol or their favorite local attraction.

The virtual scavenger hunt is similar, with questions about the city and state that can be answered by looking online, like "How many parks are there in Jefferson City?" and "Who founded Lincoln University in 1866?"

Downloadable versions of the scavenger hunts can be found on the CVB's website, visitjeffersoncity.com/operation-jc-scavenger-hunt.

After answering all 10 questions or completing the photo requests, participants can email the answers to [email protected] to enter for a chance to win a $50 gift card to Prison Brews Microbrewery and Restaurant.

Only one submission is permitted per family. Submissions need to be in by May 10, and the winner will be randomly drawn May 11. The winner will receive an email from the CVB and will be announced on the Visit Jefferson City Facebook page.
