Hoelscher seeks reelection as Cole County Eastern District commissioner

Cole County Eastern District Commissioner Jeff Hoelscher filed Tuesday to seek re-election.

Hoelscher, a Republican, was first elected to the position in 2008.

"I want to continue to bring common sense to the position," Hoelscher said in his campaign announcement news release. "We are continuously making decisions that relate to budgeting, roads and bridges, and public safety. Having worked in the public sector and being a business owner, I was well aware of the need to gather citizen input and to work to promote inter-governmental cooperation."

Hoelscher owns Hoelscher Emterprises LLC, a construction and remodeling business. He also has served on the St. Thomas City Council and worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue Driver's License Bureau.

Hoelscher noted his experience in previous terms as commissioner, as well as his involvement in other boards and commissions. Among his other leadership roles are past chair and current vice chair of the CAMPO Board of Directors, past chair of Cole County Communities, past chair of the East Side Business Association, current board member with the Home Builders Association, past secretary of the University of Missouri Cole County Extension, current treasurer and past vice chair of the Mid Missouri Solid Waste Management District Board, and the board of the Missouri Association of Counties.

"Community involvement is very important in keeping in touch with our folks," Hoelscher said. "I will continue to engage with the community and to connect with people and build relationships."

Republican Rick Mihaleivch, who also filed as a candidate for Eastern District commissioner Tuesday, announced in November he would seek the position.

Other Cole County offices up for election in 2020 include Western District commissioner, sheriff, assessor, public administrator and treasurer.

There are also two circuit judge positions to be voted on and an election to fill the judicial position created for a second associate circuit court.

Filing for countywide offices in 2020 officially ends March 31. The primary election will be Aug. 4, and the general election will be Nov. 3.
