Republican Cole County Assessor Chris Estes has filed for re-election.

Estes was first appointed assessor in 2007 by then-Gov. Matt Blunt after being selected by the Cole County Republican Central Committee to fill the seat vacated by the previous assessor. He was then elected in 2008 and re-elected in 2012 and 2016.

Estes said in his election announcement that during the last 12 years, the assessor's office "has achieved a level of accuracy, under his direction, that has kept them at the top of the state for accuracy, based on the Missouri State Tax Commission's ratio studies."

He added: "Out of the 114 counties, and the City of St. Louis, Cole County has been in the top four for most accurate values in the state of Missouri. We have a success rate of over 95 percent when defending county values."

Estes said his goal is to continue to maintain a fair and equal process in the assessment of taxpayers' property while retaining the office's high level of accuracy and customer service.

Republican Rick Prather, who also filed as a candidate for assessor Tuesday, announced Monday he would seek the position. Republican Jonathan Meyers also filed as a candidate for assessor Tuesday.

Other Cole County offices up for election in 2020 include Eastern and Western District commissioners, sheriff, public administrator and treasurer.

There are also two circuit judge positions to be voted on and an election to fill the judicial position created for a second associate circuit court.

Filing for countywide offices in 2020 officially ends March 31. The primary election will be Aug. 4, and the general election will be Nov. 3.
