Jefferson City man shot; police investigation ongoing

A 21-year-old Jefferson City man was shot multiple times in the lower torso early Sunday morning but is refusing to cooperate with Jefferson City police.

The Jefferson City Police Department said several 911 callers reported at 3 a.m. that someone had been shot inside a building at 711 Madison St.

Police said they found a large group of people at the location, but no one was suffering from a gunshot wound.

"Moments later, officers determined that a subject had been transported by private vehicle from the scene to a nearby hospital with injuries," police said in a news release.

The victim would not give a statement regarding his injuries, police said

The victim was transported to Columbia for treatment, but his wounds are not considered life-threatening.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and the shooting does not appear to be random.
