The Jefferson City Housing Authority is hosting an open house Friday for four properties in the East Capitol Avenue urban renewal area.

Between 9 a.m.-noon Friday, the homes at 501, 507 and 513 E. Capitol Ave. and 101 Jackson St. will be open for visitors to tour.

The hope is the Housing Authority will find interested redevelopers for the run-down historical homes.

Visitors are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and masks, bring flashlights and dress appropriately for the weather.

The homes at 501 E. Capitol Ave. and 101 Jackson St. are multi-family dwellings, while 507 and 513 E. Capitol Ave. are single-family homes. The four properties were built between 1875-1920.

Last week the Housing Authority held an open house at 500 E. Capitol Ave., also known as Ivy Terrace. They will hold another open house at the property from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Nov. 21.

Acting as the Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority, the Housing Authority is accepting redevelopment proposals for the properties until 2:30 p.m. Jan. 7. Potential developers can submit proposals for one or more properties.

Proposals for redevelopment should include goals for the redevelopment of the property in compliance with the overlay district requirements, city code and zoning restrictions; use of the existing building or buildings as residential or commercial; start of the renovation within four months of the award and completion within 18 months; and occupancy within three months of completion of construction.

According to the Housing Authority, proposals will be evaluated based on proposed use, impact on the removal of blight in the area, the historical relevance of the use, the impact of the proposal on future renovations in the areas, financial stability of the developer, the developer's experience and reputation, and price.

The properties open for redevelopment proposals are:

101 Jackson St., built 1910, estimated square footage 4,228.

500 E. Capitol Ave., built 1893, estimated square footage 5,943.

501 E. Capitol Ave., built 1895, estimated square footage 4,556.

511 E. Capitol Ave., built 1910, estimated square footage 2,136.

The property at 511 E. Capitol Ave. has not been deemed safe to enter at this time.
