A Jefferson City couple have been charged with child endangerment.

Chad Miller, 33, and Candice Shockley, 34, are each charged with one count of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Miller and Shockley are in a relationship, according to Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statements.

Shockley consented to authorities' searching the home after the Children's Division of the Missouri Department of Social Services came and took custody of a 1-year-old child who was living in the residence in the 200 block of Manila Street.

Authorities said the agency had been called because the residence was "filthy with trash and animal feces covering the floor throughout the residence."

The search of the apartment reportedly turned up six methamphetamine pipes. Between the mattress and box spring the child was found sleeping in, authorities also allegedly found a loaded syringe, a meth pipe, a scale and a small bag containing approximately 3 grams of what authorities said was methamphetamine.
