Jefferson City police catch one, others flee in morning manhunt

One person was taken into custody and four more were being sought after a burglary and pursuit early Thursday in Jefferson City.

A burglary was reported at Best Buy on Missouri Boulevard around 4:30 a.m., according to police reports.

Authorities noticed a van in the area and attempted to stop it, but it sped away.

Near the 800 block of West Stadium Boulevard at Target, the occupants of the van got out and fled on foot in multiple directions. The van continued downhill before coming to rest in the treeline behind the store.

One suspect was taken into custody, while four others got away.

A perimeter was set up covering a wooded area behind businesses such as Target and Westlake Ace Hardware. Using a drone and on foot, officers combed the area until approximately 7:45 a.m., when the search was halted.

The name of the subject taken into custody was not released pending formal charges, but authorities said they recovered the van and merchandise believed to have been taken in the burglary was inside.

Authorities believe none of those involved are from the Jefferson City area.
