Internet outage affects Jefferson City customers

The News Tribune office could not be reached by telephone or email for several hours Thursday morning, apparently because of a CenturyLink internet service outage, but service now seems to be working again at the office.

Other customers also reported internet outages on social media in the Jefferson City area, but the company reports service has since been restored.

A CenturyLink customer representative told News Tribune IT staff that the outage reportedly originated early Thursday morning when there was an issue with a network card in the St. Louis area that knocked nearly all of Missouri and eastern Kansas offline, and that a replacement was being flown to the location to be installed.

A company spokesman Thursday afternoon would confirm only that the outage was the result of "equipment failure" and said service was restored at 9:24 a.m. He didn't know many customers were affected, but said additional details might be available later.
