Cole County Collector Larry Vincent said his office has been receiving calls concerning a scam involving letters to property owners in Jefferson City and Cole County.
He said the letter asks taxpayers to pay $86 for information they can obtain for free from county offices. The company sending the letter has been identified as Property Profile Inc. of Glendora, California.
Several complaints about the company have been filed with the Better Business Bureau and other similar online sites.
"We want to let the public know that no Cole County government office is associated with Property Profile Inc. in any way," Vincent said.
