Take a break with some good fun and good wine next week as BarVino hosts its January Wine Tasting.

The event, set for 6:30 p.m. Monday at The Millbottom, is part of a monthly series of wine tastings offered by BarVino, said Matt Green, of BarVino. With the cold weather, the tastings are usually held at The Millbottom, but Green said he hopes to hold them at the Memorial Park Pavilion once the weather warms up.

Each tasting features six wines, almost always dry, Green said. Attendees will learn a lot and enjoy the time, he said.

“We always pick really great wines,” Green said. “It’s informative and educational … but it’s a big party.”

At recent tastings, they’ve also served pizza from Theo’s Midtown, he said. Green said wine also is available by the glass for one before and one hour after the official tasting.

The tastings are always open to the public and cost $10 per person, though registration is required to attend. And the events are free for members of BarVino’s Wine Club. Green said club members get two seats at each monthly tasting, as well as two good bottles of always dry, usually red, wine picked by staff and 10 percent off everything at BarVino. The club membership is $40 per month.

Green said the goal was always to make the club so great that once people signed up, they’d never leave. At the start of 2020, he said, they had 100 members. That number has grown to 173, which Green said exceeds his expectations.
