Capitol City Cinema to host virtual screenwriting, filmmaking workshops

Anyone interested in learning more about screenwriting or filmmaking should take a look at a new offering from Capitol City Cinema and the Jefferson City Arts Foundation.

Dalton Turner, executive director at Capitol City Cinema, said they found a filmmaker and screenwriter who teaches at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Christopher Metz, who agreed to teach virtual workshops on the topics. Metz is an award-winning screenwriter and filmmaker with over 20 years of experience writing, directing and producing film and video. He teaches film and video production and screenwriting.

Each workshop will be five to seven classes and is aimed at young adults and adults, although Turner said all ages are welcome. The first workshop will be screenwriting, to be held in late August or September. Pre-registration is open until Saturday and there is a $100 registration fee. All the classes will take place virtually on a free video conference platform. The goal with each class is to include the knowledge and skills of those participating, who will come out of the class with a short script and/or short film.

Turner said response has been pretty low so far, but he hopes that will change as the date nears. He said the hope is to make this an annual event for aspiring screenwriters and filmmakers in Mid-Missouri.
