It's the last chance to enjoy Stars Under the Stars this summer, with the season's final event set for Friday night.

This free program from the Jefferson City Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department brings a giant inflatable screen showing a family movie in the park once a month during the summer. It's typically held at Ellis-Porter Riverside Park, where the amphitheater provides a perfect setting, but as improvements to the amphitheater and Riverside Park continue, the event has moved to Vivion Field at Washington Park. Once completed, the new amphitheater at Riverside is expected to include fixed seating for around 2,000 people with additional seating behind and hillside, grass seating farther back.

Attendees can bring lawn chairs, blankets and refreshments. Sodas and bug spray are not allowed in the outfield, as they can kill the grass.

Friday's movie will be "A Dog's Journey," a 2019 comedy-drama and sequel to the 2017 film "A Dog's Purpose." The movie will begin at dusk, about 8:45 p.m.

Food and drink concessions will be available for purchase.

Because the event is outdoors, it is easy to maintain social distancing while enjoying the film. Those who plan to attend should keep an eye on the weather as current forecasts show a chance for thunderstorms Friday night.
