BizBeat: Big Whiskey's sets grand opening date

It's official: Big Whiskey's American Restaurant & Bar will open Oct. 18 in Jefferson City.

The Springfield-based franchise will open it's Capital City location in the new River Park building near the intersection of West McCarty Street and Industrial Drive.

The building, formerly the JCD Building, was originally a shoe factory when it was built in 1905, then served as JCD Furniture starting in 1959. The building was vacant for around nine years before Charles Jon Christiansen purchased it in November 2018.

"Landmark buildings like this one need to be utilized and giving it a new purpose is so good for the community. Big Whiskey's is a perfect fit for this space, they're a community-minded company and will be a steward of Jefferson City," Big Whiskey's Jefferson City owner Ryan Bohl said in a news release.

Big Whiskey's will take up 20,000 square feet of the ground floor, including restaurant seating and a bar area, along with outdoor seating as part of a three-story outdoor porch that was constructed on the building's east side.

The construction at River Park and the opening of Big Whiskey's were both delayed by the May 22 tornado and the spring flooding, as well as delays due to permits.

Over the weekend of Oct. 18-20, the restaurant will host it's grand opening event, including prizes and giveaways, according to a news release.
