Jane Randolph Jefferson Chapter of DAR

We had a great March meeting, many thanks to the Hostess Team of Rhonda Bish, Leona Johnson and Cecile Landrum for the lovely treats.

Our program was presented by Travis Bauer and Brandy Friend, who provided samples of textiles, modeled attire and discussed the history of clothing in the Revolutionary period. They were assisted by Jim and Debbie Baker and Tianna Friend. I've heard from several members who had to miss the meeting, items they displayed can be viewed at their site: https://asecondchanceathistory.com.

Many thanks to our Scholarship Committee chaired by Lisa Kremer, assisted by Donna Weiss, Susan Vaughn, and Ellen Sandhaus. The committee reviewed 43 applications, and the chapter will be able to award three scholarships at our May meeting.

Many thanks for the seed packets and donations to support "Grow Appalachia," a Foodways Program at the DAR Supported Hindman Settlement School. https://hindman.org/. Through your generosity we were able to ship 141 seed packets and a cash donation to this project. Hindman Settlement School has sent an acknowledgement and their thanks for the chapter's support.

Service to Veterans team members Brenda Kuensting, Carol Harrison and Rhonda Bish set up a table at Primrose Retirement Community for their first "Military Morning Breakfast," where our chapter provided Easter bags and socks to their thirty veterans and fabric coasters to other Primrose attendees.

The March MSSDAR Patriot of the Month is Curtis Melloway. We thank him for his service.

The April MSSDAR Patriot of the Month is David Hosenfelt. He and Stan Adams will have their "Manchu" film shown in May on the William Woods Campus.

Rose Hilkemeyer and HODAR Nick drove three hours to Kansas to honor the veterans in her life with patriotic quilts and lap blankets. Army Veteran Duane Noll and Navy Veteran Ron Barnhardt. They were thrilled with their personal honor (photos are on Facebook).

Our next chapter meeting will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, at the Clydesdale Room at N.H. Schepper, with refreshments being served at 9:30 a.m.

If you think you have an ancestor who served during the Revolutionary War, please visit our website at www.dar.org.
