Enjoy art and music at the "Bach in the Subways" event set for today at the Jefferson City Museum of Modern Art.

"Bach in the Subways" is an event put on by a global community of classical music lovers that was founded in 2010 when Dale Henderson feared there was a decline in classical music audiences due to people not experiencing it live.

That led Henderson to perform Bach cello suites in the New York subways, which turned into an invitation for other musicians to follow suit the following year.

Local musician Karen Bretz will play Bach on the flute in celebration of his 339th birthday. The event will be held at noon today at the Jefferson City Museum of Modern Art, 220 E. High Street.

The program will feature a 15-minute introduction to the museum's art, followed by 20 minutes of music.
