JC man faces child pornography charges

A Jefferson City man faces child pornography charges following a cyber investigation.

Melvin Lahr was charged with first-degree promoting child pornography and possession of child pornography in Cole County.

A Boone County Sheriff's Office probable cause statement said the office's cyber-crime unit received a February tip from an online reporting system that multiple videos believed to depict child sexual abuse had been stored on an online platform.

The footage reportedly showed children in sex acts with each other and an adult, and the videos were linked to an IP address and email.

Earlier this month, authorities discovered the location that the IP address was registered to and unearthed more illicit material, including 65 images.

Authorities served a search warrant March 20 at the location and spoke with the resident, Lahr, who reportedly admitted he is the sole owner of the account. He allegedly said he shared around 100 such images of children as young as 7 with another account.

Other electronic items belonging to Lahr were also collected, and forensic experts located file names and associated email addresses during their search.
