RUSSELLVILLE -- The Calvary Lutheran Lions and Lady Lions opened their season Tuesday with four event wins at the Russellville Open.
The Lady Lions placed fifth out of 13 teams with 50 points and the Lions finished sixth out of 14 teams with 44 points.
Sydney Morris was a double-winner for the Lady Lions in the shot put and the discus. Maddy Sprengel also won the 3,200-meter run for the Calvary Lutheran girls.
Jaxson Jobe was the lone winner for the Lions, claiming first place in the boys 3,200.
South Callaway’s Reece Pahl was a quadruple-winner to start her season. She came in first place in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, as well as the high jump and the long jump. That accounted for 40 of the Lady Bulldogs’ 68.5 team points, good for third place.
Placing first for the South Callaway boys was Colten Crocker in the pole vault.
The New Bloomfield Wildcats won the boys team title with 135.5 points. New Bloomfield won six of the 19 events, including all four relays.
Jacob Fuhriman, Hunter Rackers, Cameron Rohrbach and James Powell ran both the 4x100- and 4x200-meter relays. Rackers added a third win in the 4x400-meter relay, while Conor Lawrence and Riley Connell each won with the 4x400- and 4x800-meter relays.
Ben Speaks was on the first-place 4x400 relay and also won the 200-meter dash, while Trenton Boessen finished first in the javelin. Rounding out the rest of the Wildcats’ relay winners were Porter Hurt and Jayson Locke in the 4x800.
Ayden Bryant was a double-winner to lead the California Pintos, taking first in the 100 and the long jump. Jackson Hesnely added a first-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles.
Russellville combined to win five events.
Karleigh Grayson, Audrey Klatt, Lyssa Nix and Brettlynn Strother were on the Lady Indians’ winning 4x400-meter relay. Grayson added a title in the 100-meter hurdles and Klatt placed first in the 400-meter dash.
For the Russellville boys, Keaton Schrimpf won the 300-meter hurdles and Grant Smith took first in the discus.
The Linn Lady Wildcats won two events at the meet. Kylie Messenger, Paige Loethen, Hope Wolfe and Ramsie Tschappler were on the winning 4x800 relay and Loethen had the other title in the 1,600-meter run.
The Tipton Lady Cardinals also finished first in a pair of events. Addison McQuaide, Clara Williams, Nina Allison and Cailey Savage won the 4x200 relay and Williams also placed first in the 300 hurdles.
For the Tipton boys, Riley Walters won the 400.
Iberia’s Clayton Parker was a double-winner on the boys side, taking first in the high jump and the triple jump.
Rounding out the area winners is Jamestown’s Rylee Hirschvogel, who placed first in the triple jump.
