Prep Baseball: Blair Oaks 8, St. Francis Borgia 2

WASHINGTON -- Eight Blair Oaks batters combined for 12 hits Wednesday night, leading the Falcons to an 8-2 win against the Class 5 No. 2 St. Francis Borgia Knights.

Highlighting the Falcons’ offense was Zane Halford, who drove in four runs. He capped the scoring with a three-run home run to left field in the top of the fourth inning.

Three straight singles to start the game loaded the bases, then Colten Bryan grounded out to the second baseman, scoring Hayden Lackman to plate the Falcons’ first run. Halford followed with an RBI groundout to make the score 2-0.

The Falcons added two more runs in the second inning, which also featured three consecutive singles. The third single was an RBI hit by Lackman and another run scored on an error to put Blair Oaks ahead 4-0.

Borgia (2-1) scored its runs in the bottom of the third, but the Falcons pulled away with a four-run fourth inning.

Lackman, Nolan Laughlin, Owen Schellman and Jake Hagner each had two singles for the Blair Oaks offense.

Wyatt Libbert pitched the first 2⅓ innings for the Falcons, giving up two runs on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Carson Rustemeyer threw 3⅔ innings of one-hit relief, walking one and striking out five, while Lackman pitched the final inning and allowed one hit to go with one strikeout.

Blair Oaks (3-1), ranked No. 10 in Class 4, plays at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Springfield Catholic.

In the JV game, Borgia defeated Blair Oaks 5-1.
