Prep Baseball: Blair Oaks 5, Boonville 4

BOONVILLE -- The Blair Oaks Falcons saved all their runs until the end.

After being shut out for six innings Tuesday, Blair Oaks rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh, edging the Boonville Pirates for a 5-4 win in Tri-County Conference play at Harley Park.

Easton DeMilia started the comeback with a one-out double in the seventh. Evan McCullough drew a walk and Jake Hagner was hit by a pitch, loading the bases and bringing the tying run to the plate.

Joey Wilde drew a seven-pitch walk, forcing in DeMilia for the first run. Hayden Lackman was then hit by a pitch, forcing in McCullough to make the score 4-2 and put the tying run in scoring position.

Nolan Laughlin grounded out to the shortstop for the second out, but Hagner scored from third base to make it a one-run game.

Down to the Falcons’ final out, Warren Davis reached on an outfield error, scoring Wilde for the tying run and Lackman for the go-ahead run.

Boonville opened the bottom of the seventh with a single to put the tying run on base, but a double play ended the Pirates’ threat.

Boonville scored its four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Bennett Greenhagen and Abram Taylor each had RBI singles, while the other two runs scored on a passed ball and a balk.

Nolan DeMilia was the winning pitcher for the Falcons. In 4⅔ innings of relief, he allowed no runs on two hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

Zane Halford threw the first 2⅓ innings, giving up four runs on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Lackman had two of the Falcons’ four hits.

Blair Oaks (2-1, 1-0 Tri-County), ranked No. 10 in Class 4, plays today at Class 5 No. 2 St. Francis Borgia. The varsity game starts at 5 p.m.

In Tuesday night’s JV game, Blair Oaks defeated Boonville 6-0.

Mitchell Rogers and Connor Forck combined to pitch a two-hitter, finishing with four and two strikeouts, respectively. Kaden Schulte had two of the Falcons’ seven hits, including a triple, and Jackson Braun drove in two runs.
