Capital City boys, Eldon girls win in track and field dual

The Capital City Cavaliers beat the Eldon Mustangs 85-70, while the Lady Mustangs beat the Lady Cavaliers 81-74 in a season-opening dual Tuesday at Capital City High School.

Keion Grieve and Isaiah Franklin were three-time winners to lead the Cavaliers.

Grieve won the 400- (52.03 seconds) and 800-meter runs (2:17.7) as a solo competitor, while anchoring the 4x400-meter relay (3:44.57) team with Kaleb Terry, Parker Bonchonsky and Zach James.

Franklin won the 110- (16.49 seconds) and 300-meter hurdles (46.17 seconds) as an individual, and ran with Bonchonsky, Cole Leverett and Terry on the 4x100-meter relay (46.27 seconds).

Bonchonsky and Terry were three-time winners after pairing with James and Bryant Burton for a winning run in the 4x200-meter relay (1:37.41).

Thomas Harlan won the 1,600-meter run for the Cavaliers with a time of 5:10.27, while Shaun Adams cleared 5-feet, 9 inches to win the high jump.

Francis Samuel leapt 18 feet, 7¼ inches for the top spot in the long jump and Isaak Nelson won the javelin throw with a toss of 151-4.

Andrew Beanland was a two-time winner for Eldon, taking first in the 100- (11.41 seconds) and 200-meter (23.67 seconds) dashes, while Nathan Reynolds won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:49.43.

Reynolds was the third leg of the Mustang 4x800-meter relay along with Dakota Collins, Tevin Eldridge and Oliver Burrows, which ran a time of 8:57.32 for first.

Jesiah Simmons won the pole vault for the Mustangs when he cleared 11-11, Jalen Beckman won the triple jump with a leap of 44-4, Jace Robertson won the shot put with a throw of 44-1½ and Vijay Jones threw the discus 151-4 for first.

On the girls side, Tyrica Sterrett was a three-time winner for the Lady Cavaliers, taking first in the 100 (12.32), 400 (1:06.56) and as part of the 4x200 team (1:53.05) with Madilyn Shewmaker, Ester Abbott and Layla Hess.

Shewmaker was a four-time winner, taking two individual wins with top spots in the 100-meter hurdles (17.96 seconds) and 300-meter hurdles (54.12 seconds), while taking part in the Lady Cavaliers 4x400 team with Esther Abbott, Hess and Kari Kemna, which took first in 4:01.57.

Miriam Abbott won the pole vault when she cleared 8-6¼ and Michele Narug tossed the discus 110-9 for first.

Zoe Martonfi was a four-time winner to lead the Lady Mustangs, taking the top spot in the 800- (2:28.96), 1,600- (5:32.54) and 3,200-meter (12:21.77) runs, while also taking the title in the triple jump (34-7).

Eldon’s 4x100 team of Hannah Beanland, Brittany Morris, Ravyn Delong and Sydney Halderman took first in 54.64 seconds, while the 4x800 relay of Heather Bradfield, Mikala Huckabee, Shylea Pearson and Mallori Edwards ran a time of 11:20.49 for first.

Huckabee added a win in the high jump, clearing 5-0, Beanland won the javelin with a toss of 94-1½, Julie Barnett won the long jump at 13-7¾ and Leandra Wilson-Sanchez won the shot put with a heave of 33-10¾.

Capital City will return to the track Monday in a triangular hosting Jefferson City and Hannibal. Eldon will compete Thursday at the Blair Oaks Invitational.
