Ameren Missouri reports 651 customers in southern Callaway County were among area customers who lost electricity shortly before 6 a.m. today as a severe thunderstorm with heavy winds passed through the Jefferson City area.

The utility company's outage map at https://outagemap.ameren.com/ indicates the loss of power occurred in an area along U.S. 63. Pole damage was listed as the cause of the outage, and a passing motorist reported to the News Tribune that power poles were down in the area of the sod farm along the Missouri River bottoms.

The company estimated the time of restoration of power for that area as 9:15 a.m. today.

In addition, around 500 Ameren customers were reported without power, as of 8 a.m., in an area around the Runge Conservation Nature Center in western Jefferson City. Estimated restoration time was predicted to be 9 a.m. Other scattered outages were reported in parts of town.

The Hartsfield YMCA at 3507 Amazonas Drive will closed until further notice due to the power outage, according to the organization's Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives reported at https://www.amec.org/statewide-outage-map that, as of 8 a.m., 47 customers of Callaway Electric Cooperative were without power. Co-Mo Electric Cooperative reported 18 customers without electricity in Cole County and 19 in Morgan County. Three Rivers Electric Cooperative reported 108 members without power in Osage County.

The National Weather Service reports another round of severe thunderstorms is expected across portions of Mid-Missouri this afternoon and evening. Hazards with these thunderstorms include large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes.
