Prep Baseball: Mexico 5, South Callaway 4

MEXICO -- The Mexico Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead Monday and held on late, picking up a 5-4 victory against the South Callaway Bulldogs.

Mexico plated two runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead, but South Callaway tied the game in the third.

Avery Foster scored South Callaway’s first run on a wild pitch, then Tucker Jones tied the contest with a sacrifice fly.

Mexico took the lead for good with a three-run bottom half, though, using three hits and an error to score its final three runs of the game.

South Callaway scored one run in each of the sixth and seventh innings. Graden Pontius drove in a run with a single in the sixth and Ethan Edwards made it a one-run game with a two-out RBI double in the seventh. Edwards was left at second base after a groundout ended the game.

South Callaway out-hit Mexico 8-5, led by Edwards and Pontius with two hits each. Owen Rees pitched the first three innings for South Callaway, allowing five runs (two earned) one five hits and two walks. Dane Daugherty and Chase Mealy combined to throw the final three innings scoreless, allowing just two walks.

South Callaway (6-9) will be back in action at 4:30 p.m. today at Hermann.
