Prep Baseball: Blair Oaks goes 0-2 on final day of Columbia Tournament

COLUMBIA -- The Blair Oaks Falcons dropped a pair of games in Saturday’s third-place bracket of the Columbia Tournament, losing 3-0 to Eureka and 4-2 to Grain Valley at Battle High School.

Riley Schnieders and Harrison Lear held Eureka to just two hits, but a two-run triple by Brady Picarelli in the bottom of the third inning was enough insurance for the Wildcats’ offense.

Schnieders finished with three walks and four strikeouts in four innings, while Lear had one walk and four strikeouts in two scoreless innings of relief.

Warren Davis had two of Blair Oaks’ five hits and Brock Buhr added a triple.

In the 11th-place game against Grain Valley, Blair Oaks finished with just three hits: an RBI single by Easton DeMilia in the second inning, a one-out single by Nolan Laughlin in the third inning and a leadoff double by Hayden Lackman in the fifth inning.

Zane Halford pitched the first five innings for the Falcons, giving up three runs on four hits with five walks and five strikeouts. Evan McCullough pitched two innings in relief, allowing one run on one hit and one walk.

Blair Oaks (14-6), ranked No. 2 in Class 4, hosts California on Tuesday for a Tri-County Conference contest.
