MOKANE -- The New Bloomfield Wildcats won the boys team championship Thursday at the South Callaway Invitational, topping the standings of 16 schools with 137.5 points.
Three of the Wildcats’ five wins came in relays events. Hunter Rackers ran on both of New Bloomfield’s 4x200- and 4x400-meter relays that came in first place, while Riley Connell and Conor Lawrence were both winners on the 4x400- and 4x800-meter relays.
Jacob Fuhriman, who ran on the 4x200 relay, added an individual title in the 300-meter hurdles, while Ben Speaks, who ran on the 4x400 relay, also placed first in the 400-meter dash.
Also running on New Bloomfield’s first-place relays were Cameron Rohrbach and James Powell on the 4x200 relay and Porter Hurt and Jayson Locke on the 4x800 relay.
The New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats had a pair of first-place finishes: Addison Baker in the girls 400 and Baker, Kaelyn Tighe, Myah Briggs and Marley Hunt in the 4x400 relay.
The South Callaway Bulldogs took second place in the boys standings at their home meet, finishing with 99 points.
The Bulldogs had a trio of winners: Nathan Hecktor in the javelin, Cole Lee in the triple jump and Owen Rees, Cole Brewer, Tayber Gray and Colten Crocker in the 4x100-meter relay.
The Russellville Indians placed third in the team standings with 91 points. Claiming first-place finishes for the Russellville boys were Keaton Schrimpf in the 110-meter hurdles and Grant Smith in the shot put.
Brettlynn Strother, Audra Whittle, Jenna Schulte and Karleigh Grayson had the lone win for the Russellville girls in the 4x100 relay. The Lady Indians took third place in the girls team standings with 70 points, trailing only Hallsville (88) and Vienna (77).
The Calvary Lutheran Lions and Lady Lions each had a pair of double-winners.
Jaxson Jobe placed first in the boys 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs for the Lions, who placed seventh as a team with 42 points.
Sydney Morris won both the girls shot put and discus -- she has won each of those events in every meet so far this season -- to help the Lady Lions to a seventh-place finish with 49 points.
St. Elizabeth had three individual champions. For the Lady Hornets, AJ Struemph won the girls javelin, breaking the school record with a throw of 113 feet, 2¾ inches, while Sarah Backes claimed first place in the high jump.
Kade Wright was a double-winner for the St. Elizabeth boys. In addition to winning the discus, Wright broke his own school record in the boys pole vault, clearing a height of 14-5. One day earlier, his younger sister, Pressly Wright, broke the St. Elizabeth middle school record at the South Callaway meet, clearing 8-9½.
The Tipton Lady Cardinals had a pair of event wins. Clara Williams won the 300 hurdles and also ran on Tipton’s first-place 4x200 relay with Nina Allison, Cailey Savage and Addison McQuaide.
Other area champions at the meet were Iberia’ Ammon Buechter in the boys long jump and Linn’s Kylie Messenger, Ramsie Tschappler, Hope Wolfe and Paige Loethen in the girls 4x800 relay.
