All-you-can-eat ribs, a beer garden and live music are sure to make for a great day at the 17th Annual Capital City Cook-Off.

Thirty-five of the best pitmasters in the area will battle it out for the title on April 19.

This is one of the main fundraisers for the Special Learning Center (SLC). The event was originally started by the Missouri Barbecue Society, which chose SLC as the beneficiary.

SLC provides therapy, education, care, services and general outreach to children with developmental disabilities and delays. Currently, they serve more than 900 children annually across 11 counties.

"We have some returning champions coming back to cook again for us this year and we have a couple new cooks," said Whitney Lammers, Director of Development & Marketing at SLC.

Shiloh Country Band will perform live during the event to entertain you while you eat. The cook-off will begin at 5 p.m.

A total of 30 celebrity judges will choose their favorite.

Tickets are $25 in advance and can be purchased online at capitalcitycookoff.com or in-person at Scruggs Lumber, Hy-Vee, Ready Popped and the SLC office at 1115 Fairgrounds Road. Tickets will also be available at the door and will cost $30.
