JC man charged with running from police

A Jefferson City man has been charged with resisting arrest after a confrontation with police Wednesday.

Demetrius Jones, 34, was located walking along West Dunklin Street by police who were familiar with him, according to a probable cause statement. The officer discovered an active parole violation warrant and eventually tried to contact Jones, who allegedly looked at him before sprinting away.

After ignoring verbal commands to stop, Jones reached the edge of a creek with a steep embankment and tumbled down into the water. He reportedly continued to flee, but laid on the ground at the edge of the creek and surrendered.

Court records state he was on parole for robbery, and has prior burglary and resisting arrest charges.
