Jefferson City man charged with attempted rape

A Jefferson City man faces charges after allegedly sexually abusing a woman Monday.

Jacob Beul, 26, was charged with rape or attempted rape and sodomy or attempted sodomy.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement states Beul contacted the woman Monday afternoon on a walking trail at Binder Park, asking if he could walk the trail with her. She agreed, but once they were out of sight of vehicles, Beul allegedly began making advances and touching her.

The woman said Beul began to sexually assault her and that she pushed him away, refusing to go with him to his car.

She told police upon their contact she was scared for her safety and feared he would rape her. She said she was afraid to try and run, fearing he would overpower her, and that she tried to get him to add his information to her phone so she could identify him, but he refused and left.

Police located Beul and detained him based on her description of his vehicle, and the woman identified Beul and his vehicle from a street lineup.

Beul reportedly admitted to talking to and touching the woman, and he said he didn't have a reason for his actions and that he was sorry.
