Jefferson City man arrested for threatening youth

Jefferson City police took a man into custody Monday morning for allegedly threatening juveniles with a gun.

Officers with the Jefferson City Police Department responded to a weapons offense call in the 100 block of North Ventura Avenue around 7:30 a.m., according to a department news release.

They located four juveniles who provided information about the incident and gathered statements. Officers then identified a 45-year-old Jefferson City man as a suspect and took him into custody for further investigation.

The suspect admitted to yelling at a group of juveniles because he was upset about how they treated his child. He denied possessing or pointing a handgun at the juveniles and no weapon was recovered from the suspect or his home.

He remains in custody at the Cole County Jail awaiting formal charges on four counts of fourth-degree assault.
