Jefferson City man charged with attempted burglary, assault

A Jefferson City man faces numerous charges after allegedly attempting to break into a residence Friday.

Landon Collins, 18, was charged in Cole County with first-degree attempted burglary, armed criminal action, resisting arrest and three counts of fourth-degree assault.

A probable cause statement from the Jefferson City Police Department said Collins arrived at a woman's residence in the 300 block of Ridgeway Drive with a hatchet Friday evening, trying to open the door to the residence. The woman and her children were reportedly fearful of him, and she yelled at Collins to leave the property.

The children were sent to their rooms, and the woman called for the police. Collins was apprehended after attempting to flee and reportedly admitted to being under the influence of drugs and that he had attempted to enter the home with the stolen hatchet.
