Columbia man charged with forgery

A Columbia man has been charged with forgery after allegedly writing a bad check for nearly $1,600.

Christopher Wilkerson, 46, was charged with fourth-degree forgery, and a criminal summons was issued for a June 27 initial court appearance.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement filed Tuesday shows Wilkerson was identified on camera on June 28 of last year at Legends Bank on East McCarty Street, cashing a check for $1,598. The check was reportedly found to be fraudulent, and the bank signed an affidavit indicating fraud.

The individual that reported the incident said the checks were similar to real ones, but did not feature the same watermark.

Wilkerson did not have a history with local law enforcement, according to the statement, and reportedly cashed another fraudulent check in Osage County.
