Westphalia teenager seriously injured in crash

Paramedics flew a Westphalia teenager to University Hospital in Columbia after a single-vehicle crash late Friday night.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, about 11:40 p.m., 19-year-old Gavin F. Holterman was eastbound in a 1968 Ford Mustang on Route JJ near U.S. Highway 63, when he crossed the center line and began to skid. The car went off the left side of the road and struck the ground and a fence. It then hit a tree and the fence again.

Holterman, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered serious injuries.

A Friday morning rear-end collision in Callaway County left one person injured.

Angela M. Verdugo, 46, of Fulton, at about 9:09 a.m., was westbound on Route WW near County Road 340 in a Ford Fusion, when a Ford pickup driven by Andrew C. Loeffler, 32, of New Bloomfield, struck the Fusion's rear end, according to a Highway Patrol crash report.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Loeffler was uninjured.

Verdugo suffered minor injuries and was taken to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.
