Boys Basketball: New Franklin 71, South Callaway 56

MOKANE -- Playing a state-ranked team for the second time in three days, the South Callaway Bulldogs dropped a 71-56 decision Saturday to the New Franklin Bulldogs in the third-place game of the Sturgeon Tournament.

New Franklin led 12-10 after one quarter, then widened the margin to 33-26 by halftime and 53-38 through three quarters.

Tayber Gray led fourth-seeded South Callaway with 15 points and Evan Sconce-Martin added 13 points.

For second-seeded New Franklin (18-2) -- ranked No. 5 in Class 2 -- Tanner Bishop had a game-high 18 points, while Connor Wilmsmeyer and Clayton Wilmsmeyer each chipped in 10 points.

South Callaway (10-10) returns to Show-Me Conference play Tuesday with a home game against Russellville.
