Prep Basketball: Tipton 71, Northwest: Hughesville 52

TIPTON -- The Tipton Cardinals led wire-to-wire Tuesday night, knocking of the Class 1 No. 5 Northwest: Hughesville Mustangs for a 71-52 victory in Kaysinger Conference play.

Tipton started the game on a 7-0 run and Liam Corley scored a basket at the buzzer to increase the Cardinals’ lead to 23-9 by the end of the first quarter. Tipton ended the second quarter on a 7-0 run in go into halftime with a 38-15 lead.

Northwest: Hughesville made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to end the third quarter, cutting Tipton’s lead to 50-31. The Mustangs closed the gap to 13 points with 2:15 to play in the fourth but couldn’t get any closer.

Jackson Bailey scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Cardinals. Corley finished with 19 points and seven rebounds and Zach Moon also reached double figures with 12 points.

Gavin Killion scored a team-high 15 points for Northwest: Hughesville (14-3).

Tipton (14-2, 4-0 Kaysinger), which has won its last eight games, will continue conference play Friday at Lincoln.
