The Jefferson City Police Department is investigating a disturbance that resulted in the death of a Jefferson City resident Saturday afternoon.
According to a police department media release, the Jefferson City Communications center began receiving calls at approximately 12:01 p.m. reporting a disturbance with shots fired near the intersection of Broadway and Atchison Streets.
Responding officers located a 27-year-old Jefferson City resident suffering from a gunshot wound. Attempts to resuscitate the victim were unsuccessful.
The preliminary investigation identified a suspect and he was taken into custody without incident near the scene.
No other information was available at press time.
