Capital Region Medical Center is closing two of its Mid-Missouri clinics.

The health care provider announced Tuesday it is discontinuing operations at the Capital Region Physicians -- Holts Summit and St. Elizabeth clinics, effective April 15.

CRMC President Gaspare Calvaruso said in a news release the decision to close the clinics was difficult, but necessary, given the health care landscape.

Calvaruso said CRMC faces the same challenges many hospitals are facing in the "evolving health care environment."

The changes are part of a "strategic path forward that will help us address increasing financial pressures and ultimately ensure we continue to deliver high quality, compassionate, community-based care for decades to come," Calvaruso said.

"Capital Region Medical Center has not been immune from the many challenges facing the health care industry over the past several years," said Emily Mantle, CRMC director of marketing and public relations. "We made this difficult decision in a changing healthcare landscape. This consolidation and redeployment enables us to be better stewards of our resources."

The news release said CRMC is committed to ensuring all its patients have access to care, and it will reach out to every affected patient over the next few weeks to help them find care in other locations.

Hospital administration anticipates that providers at the affected clinics will move to other areas of the organization, where they have already been providing care.

Capital Region Physicians will continue to offer health care services in California, Eldon, Jefferson City, Linn, Owensville and Versailles.
