State suspends operations at Red Barn Butchering

The Missouri Department of Agriculture (MDA) suspended all operations at Red Barn Butchering in Freeburg after finding unsanitary conditions, the department says.

The department's Meat and Poultry Inspection Program (MPIP) suspended the business' operations, including the slaughter and processing of inspected, custom exempt and retail-exempt products, a news release states. The inspection took place Jan. 23.

The suspension will remain in place as the investigation proceeds.

MPIP encouraged consumers to report business conducted with Red Barn after Jan. 23, stating it had "reason to believe that consumers may be in possession of adulterated or misbranded product." Those consumers can call the MDA Meat and Poultry Inspection Program at (573) 522-1242.
