If you're in need of a date idea for Valentine's Day, the Jefferson City Symphony Orchestra is performing its second concert of the season.

Conductor Kevin Baker spoke on the special theme that the Valentine's Day concert holds.

"We have a little bit of a love theme in there," Baker said. We're calling it 'I Love You To The Moon & Back,' and we're doing Gustav Holst's 'The Planets,' which is a very famous piece which deals with a song basically written for each of the planets in our solar system."

The JCSO will be performing at Lincoln University from 7-9 p.m. Feb. 14.

"And then we're doing a piece called 'Somewhere in Time' from the movie 'Somewhere in Time,'" Baker said. "It's a Christopher Reeve movie; they traveled in time and fell in love. It's a beautiful theme based on a rhapsody theme by Paganini."

Baker said the symphony is also looking forward to a bassoon piece that will be performed by a guest bassoonist who is formerly from the Jefferson City area.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students. Lincoln students are admitted for free.

JCSO performs in the Lincoln University Robert and Charlene Mitchell Auditorium of the Richardson Fine Arts Center, 710 E. Dunklin St.

You can purchase tickets at Will West Music, Fields and Morrison Music, Capital Music, or at the door.

Tickets are also available online through Eventbrite for a small processing fee.

"I think it's going to be fun music," Baker said. "There's just a lot of variety. Holst's 'Planet' has some very beautiful things but also very exciting loud dynamic kinds of things. When we're talking about writing a piece on Mars, which is the god of war, it's very kind of militaristic and loud and in uneven meters so it's very interesting. But then it's counterpointed with some very beautiful, light things. It's a great balance."
