Little girls of all abilities hit the ice Saturday to skate with the characters from "Frozen."

The inaugural "Ice Princess Skate" drew all manner of princesses to the Washington Park Ice Arena.

Six-year-old Skye Ludy had never skated before. She and her mother, Lindsay Ludy, ventured to the arena for the event, even though Lindsay hadn't been on skates in a long time, she admitted.

Skye began the day by using a skating trainer (similar to an adult walker), but was soon outpacing her mom.

She said she was excited, "because it's my first time."

But it wasn't the first time on the ice for Olaf, Elsa and Anna, according to Carly Potts, the Jefferson City Parks figure skating director. The performers are all members of the synchronized skating team.

"The hockey director, Chad Brown, and I have tried to start implementing more special events throughout our rink," Potts said. "So we did Halloween Skate. We did Skate with Santa. We've got a disco night theme."

New lights in the rink have inspired the organizers to develop new programs that can take advantage of the unique lighting, she said.

Potts said Frozen has characters that both males and females can associate with. With winter coming on, organizers agreed this would be a fit time to try a Frozen theme.

Eva Carwile was Elsa and two girls performed as Anna -- Elise Delleart and Kaelyn Mickels. Olaf was played by Emmie Penn.

Olaf was large, as the character was an inflatable outfit.

"We hope for a decent turnout, especially being the day before Christmas Eve," Potts said. "Hopefully, some families will be traveling into town and getting exposed to the ice arena. Hopefully, they'll come back for future years."

Five-year-old Jodi Singer glided along the ice Saturday afternoon. She stayed near the center of the arena, threw her arms out and lifted a foot as she skated in circles, her frilly blue dress swishing behind her.

Then she returned to her mother, Heather Singer, who recorded as Jodi skated. The event wasn't too special for Jodie, her mother said, adding Jodi takes lessons at arena regularly.
