Jefferson City man charged with DWI

A Jefferson City man faces an intoxicated driving charge after being stopped by police over the weekend.

Michael Lehmen, 44, was charged with persistent DWI and failing to drive within the proper lane on a highway.

A probable cause statement from the Cole County Sheriff's Office states Lehmen's car was stopped by police just before midnight Saturday for multiple lane violations. The vehicle had allegedly been seen weaving and veering over the white line.

Authorities allegedly detected the smell of alcohol when contacting him and observed him slurring his words. He reportedly failed multiple field sobriety tests and eventually provided a breath sample, testing at a blood alcohol level of .196.

After his arrest, he allegedly admitted to drinking six beers over several hours before taking to the road. He has two prior convictions for DWI from 2000 and 2012, according to the statement.
