Summer camp was one of the many highlights of my childhood. Creating friendship bracelets, endless outdoor activities and making new, life-long friendships ruled my summers as a kid. Looking back, my eyes are opened to the social and emotional skills I gained at camp. Between meeting people from across the country and experiencing different lifestyles for a week or two, summer camp taught me to have compassion for others and to be open to trying new activities in a safe and positive environment.

This issue of JC Parents is focused on camps in town and the joys of summer. Writer Karly Balslew has created a list of more than a dozen camps to explore this summer, from theater camps to sports camps to church camps, there is something in town that your child is sure to enjoy (pg. 20). Writer Molly Bryan takes readers through everything they need to know about JC Parks' pools (pg. 6). Learn about lifeguarding as a summer job and swim lessons, as well as the features at Ellis-Porter Riverside Pool and the Memorial Park Family Aquatic Center. Writer Shelby Kardell spoke to the CEO of the Boys and Girls Club to get the details on all of the fun happening at the Boys and Girls Club of Jefferson City this summer (pg. 15). And, of course, JC Parents also put together a weekend getaway that will fill the entire family with joy (pg. 25).

Whether it is at the local pools, during summer vacation or while the kids are at camp, I hope you and your family make memories this summer that last a lifetime.
