Prep Softball: Jefferson City goes 2-2 in Kewpie Classic

COLUMBIA -- The Jefferson City Lady Jays went 2-0 on Saturday to finish 2-2 in the Kewpie Classic at Antimi Sports Complex.

The Lady Jays started off Saturday with a 4-1 win against the host Hickman Kewpies in a five-inning contest.

Avrey Reynolds got the win in the circle, pitching a complete game while allowing just an unearned run on six hits and a walk. She struck out six in the five innings.

Hickman got on the board first with a run in the opening frame, but Jefferson City took the lead for good in the bottom of the third with three runs.

The Lady Jays added on another run in the bottom of the fourth.

Kaylee Redcay, Reynolds, Amaya Ford, Summer Branch and Maleighka Luebbering all collected hits for Jefferson City. Ford drove in three runs and Amelia Cripe plated the other.

Jefferson City finished off the day with a 10-0 run-rule win against Ursuline Academy in five innings.

The Lady Jays scored in all four of their innings at the plate, scoring two in each of the first, second and third innings while adding on four more in the fourth.

Branch got the win in the circle, picking up a complete-game shutout with four strikeouts and zero walks while allowing four hits.

Branch and Reynolds led the way at the plate with two hits each. Emma Friedman drove in three runs, Branch and Redcay each had two RBI and Reynolds, Kenzie Moore and Ford all drove in one.

Father Tolton and Lee’s Summit West picked up run-rule wins against Jefferson City on Friday.

Father Tolton used 10 runs in the first inning and sixth in the second to win 16-0 in three innings. Elliot O’Donnell picked up the lone hit for the Lady Jays in the contest.

Lee’s Summit West used a huge seven-run third inning to run away with a 14-1 victory in five innings.

Amaya Ford tripled in the fourth inning for Jefferson City’s only hit and was driven in by Friedman.

The Lady Jays (11-15) will be back in action on Monday against Sedalia Smith-Cotton in Central Missouri Activities play at 5:30 p.m. in Sedalia.
