Girls Tennis: Helias sending five to Class 1 sectional

The Helias Lady Crusaders advanced five players to the Class 1 sectional individual tournament with their finishes Saturday in the district tournament at the Crusader Athletic Complex.

Catie Meystrik and Hannah Meystrik repeated as district doubles champions by going 3-0 in the tournament.

The duo posted wins of 6-2, 6-3 against Father Tolton and 6-1, 6-2 against School of the Osage to advance to the title match.

In the championship match, the Meystriks defeated Helias teammates Lily Delk and Liz Drainer 6-4, 6-3.

Elk and Drainer advanced to the title match with wins against School of the Osage (6-1, 6-3) and Father Tolton (6-3, 6-1).

The doubles teams both advance to the sectional round.

Samantha Schlacks of Helias advanced to the sectional by finishing second in singles.

Schlacks opened with a 6-0, 6-0 win against School of the Osage and a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Father Tolton.

In the title match, Schlacks fell 5-7, 2-6 to Emma Neidig of Boonville.

Mary Lorang also competed in singles Saturday for Helias, falling 2-6, 0-6 to Neidig in the first round.

Helias, the No. 1 seed, will open team district play Wednesday at home against fourth-seeded Boonville.
