Your Opinion: Interactive climate meeting Tuesday at MRRL

Holts Summit

Dear Editor:

As a volunteer climate educator and lobbyist, I regularly have the opportunity to visit with people about climate change. I hear a lot of ideas on how we can reduce climate risks, but what will it really take to keep global warming to safe levels?

To find the answers, a Jefferson City science educator will join an educator and environmental advocate from Rolla to lead an interactive workshop on climate solutions. The workshop begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Art Gallery at the Missouri River Regional Library, 214 Adams St., Jefferson City.

Roger Bergman is retired from Jefferson City High School, where he taught physics, chemistry, biology and principles of technology, and now serves as a science specialist with Mizzou Academy, University of Missouri's online high school.

Susan Wrasmann, of Rolla, taught for 36 years at Waynesville School District and Drury University, and volunteers for the Missouri Stream Team and Missouri Master Naturalists. Bergman and Wrasmann are En-ROADS Climate Ambassadors and volunteer with Citizens' Climate Education.

En-ROADS is a global climate simulator developed by Climate Interactive, the MIT Sloan Sustainability Initiative, and Ventana Systems. It's based on the best available science to explore the impact of a wide range of climate policies. Using the simulator, Bergman and Wrasmann will lead an interactive experience that will allow participants to test and compare various climate solutions.

Bring your ideas for solving our climate challenges to test them in the simulator. The workshop, a program of the Missouri River Regional Library and cosponsored by Citizens' Climate Education, is free and open to everyone.
