Area players, teams set for state golf tourneys

A pair of Capital City Cavaliers will look to earn honors today and Tuesday in the Class 4 state golf championships.

Blake Meredith and Noah Coleman qualified as individuals for the tournament at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club.

Meredith took second at last Monday’s district tournament at Drumm Farm Golf Club in Independence, shooting career-best 6-over 78. Coleman advanced by finishing 14th in the individual standings with an 88.

Quinn Thomas of Hannibal returns to defend his Class 4 individual title. De Smet won the title championship last season, but moved up to Class 5 due to the MSHSAA championship factor.

The Linn Wildcats and the Eugene Eagles will compete for team honors in the Class 1 state tournament at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.

Linn captured the District 1 title with a 318 last Monday at The Golf Club at Deer Chase.

Jett Maasen led the Wildcats by finishing second with a six-over 74 to take second. Connor McDaniels (tied for third, 78) and Britt Winslow (tied for fifth, 79) also earned all-district honors.

Rhett Robinson also advanced for Linn, tying for 13th with an 87.

Maasen tied for 47th in the Class 2 state tournament last year at Silo Ridge in Bolivar, while Winslow tied for 55th.

Eugene was second in the district with a 352.

Caden Anderson tied for third with a 78 to lead the Eagles in the district, while Tyler Renn had an 80 to finish seventh. Also advancing for Eugene is Javan Steinhardt (tied for 24th 95) and Christopher Bradley (tied for 34th, 99).

Jonathan Lieb of Calvary Lutheran advanced to the state tournament as the district medalist with a 2-over 70.

Lieb tied for 10th in the Class 1 state tournament last year with a two-day total of 160 at Fremont Hills Country Club in Nixa.

Westran has qualified to defend its team state title.

The California Pintos will vie for team honors in the Class 2 state tournament at Columbia Country Club.

The Pintos advanced by taking second as a team in the District 4 Tournament last Monday at Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond.

William Boyd earned district medalist honors for the Pintos, shooting a 10-over 81. Boyd finished 12th with a 169 last year at Silo Ridge in Bolivar.

Enoch Dunnaway (tied for 10th, 93) and Ayden Howard (12th, 94) also earned all-district honors for California. Jackson Hackett (tied for 19th, 100) is California’s other state qualifier. He tied for 22nd at state last year with a 181.

Brayden Buffington of Bowling Green returns to defend his Class 2 individual title.
