Guess who’s back, back again?
A R&B and hip-hop cover band is returning to their hometown in April — and it’s promised to be fun.
The Capital Region MU Health Care Amphitheater, 1425 Riverside Drive, presents Dope A** Sneakers at 7:30 p.m. April 22. Tickets are $15 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
The high-energy group was named in 2020 as one of a few “Best Local Musicians” on Jefferson City’s “City’s Best” list. DAS is comprised of lead vocalists Bobby Showers (MC Robbie Rain) and Jeff Blumer (MC Jables), Jay Pelzer on lead guitar and keys, Tom Reichart on drums, Steve Doerhoff on bass, and DJ Curtis Davis (Ya Girl’s Favorite DJ, DJ Curt) on supporting vocals.
Showers said the band offers nostalgia to classic hip-hop in the same way other cover bands honor classic rock or 1980s-90s music.
“There are a lot of classic rock and ’80s and ’90s cover bands out there, but they don’t cover the classic hip hop songs that we do,” he said. “We started this band because these songs are as iconic and significant to our pop culture as any songs out there.”
The Jefferson City native said these songs touch on a part of his childhood, too, which makes performing them all the more enjoyable.
“I was raised on these songs, so performing them live and having people jam out to the band is so much fun,” Showers said.
