The Miller County Fair is kicking off carnival season, and will be bringing friends and families together to enjoy games, rides, shows and food.

The Eldon Fourth of July Parade in conjunction with the Miller County Fair Parade will kick off the week of entertainment at 10 a.m. Monday in downtown Eldon.

The fair will take place at the Miller County Fairgrounds, East Eighth Street, and this year’s theme is “Barn in the USA.”

“It is a 4-H fair, so it’s popular with the 4-H groups that bring their cattle and their pigs, their animals, to the livestock shows,” said Dawn Rising, Miller County Fair secretary.

Tuesday will be the first night of carnival festivities and shows. The bottle calf show will begin at 5 p.m., immediately followed by the sheep and goat show. Carnival rides will also be open each night from 6-10 p.m.

At 7:30 p.m., the UTV Rodeo, Tuff Truck and Bump & Run are scheduled.

The Hog Show will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the same time as the Little Royalty Contest, which will be at the EHS Performing Arts Center.

The shows start early Thursday, beginning with the rabbit show at 9 a.m, followed by the poultry show at 11 a.m., the greased pig race at 6 p.m. and the beef show at 6:30 p.m.

The cornhole tournament and car show will be at 6:30 p.m. at the grandstand.

Friday will start with the youth livestock judging contest at 10 a.m. The Livestock Auction Buyers Dinner will be at 5 p.m., followed by the livestock auction at 6:30 p.m.

Closing out Friday’s festivities will be the Figure 8 Race at 7:30 p.m.

“Another popular event that we have is our derby,” Rising said. “That brings in a lot of folks.”

The highly-anticipated demolition derby will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, the final day of the fair.

Admission to the carnival will be free all week. Armbands for unlimited nightly rides can be purchased on the carnival grounds for $30 or in advance through Monday at Gerbes Super Market in Eldon for $25.
