Renegades get past Griffons for third straight road win

NEVADA -- The Jefferson City Renegades picked up plenty of insurance in the ninth inning Friday night, scoring five runs to beat the Nevada Griffons 10-4 in MINK League action.

Jefferson City led 5-3 after eight innings, then sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the ninth.

Cole Wagner and Luc Fuller drew back-to-back walks to begin the inning. Jackson Lovich followed with an RBI double, scoring Wagner.

Brennan Perkins was the fourth straight Renegade to reach base to start the ninth, hitting a two-run single to score Fuller and Lovich to extend Jefferson City's lead to 8-3.

Later in the inning, Joe Hoerchler hit an RBI double, scoring Perkins, and Taylor Hopkins added an RBI single that scored Hoerchler.

Nevada scored a run on an error in the bottom of the ninth, but the Renegades closed out a six-run victory, its third consecutive road win.

Neither team scored in the first four innings. Then Fuller hit an RBI single in the top of the fifth, scoring Ty Wilmsmeyer to put the Renegades in front 1-0.

Levi Masloski added an RBI single in the sixth to score Perkins, doubling Jefferson City's lead. Nevada tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run home run by Seth Gray.

Fuller answered with a two-run blast in the seventh, scoring Wilmsmeyer, to give the Renegades the lead for good.

The Griffons narrowed their deficit to one on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh, but Colin Shreves hit a solo homer in the eighth for the Renegades to push the lead back to 5-3.

Braydon Boyer was the winning pitcher for Jefferson City. In seven innings, he allowed three runs on three hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

Tanner Schmitz struck out two batters in relief in the eighth, while Grayson Eierman added a strikeout in the ninth to close the game.

The Renegades tallied 12 hits in the win. Fuller went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two walks, while Perkins was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Lovich added a 2-for-4 performance with a pair of doubles.

Gray went 2-for-4 to lead Nevada (5-10), adding a double in the eighth inning in addition to his homer.

Jacob Strobel was the losing pitcher for the Griffons.

In seven innings, he allowed four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and five walks.

Jefferson City (7-9), which is just a half game back of first place in the South Division, hosts the Sedalia Bombers at 7 p.m. today at Vivion Field.
